In navolging van NBA 2K11 ontwikkelt 2K Sports momenteel NBA 2K12 welke op de PC, de PlayStation 2, de PlayStation 3, de PlayStation Portable, de Wii en de Xbox 360 zal verschijnen. De game krijgt onder andere een Greatest Mode waarin je allerlei grote sterren van vroeger en nu bestuurt.
In de game zul je vijftig Trophies kunnen verdienen, waarvan veertig bronzen, zes zilveren en drie gouden. De laatste is zoals je zou verwachten een Platinum Trophy.
