Cliff Bleszinski’s Boss Key Productions kondigde hun project vorig jaar als een Free 2 Play titel aan, maar we leren nu dat er een streep door deze plannen gezet kan worden.
Gedurende de GDC is bekend gemaakt dat de multiplayer FPS deze zomer exclusief op Steam zal verschijnen. De game speelt zich af in een futuristisch Amerika, waar spelers kunnen kiezen of ze strijden voor nobiliteit als de "Law" of bloed willen zien als "Breaker". Het is een conflict dat zich onder andere afspeelt langs de kustlijn van Santa Monica, de Grand Canyon en een bijna onherkenbaar Mount Rushmore.
Boss Key zal digitaal worden uitgebracht, maar de prijs is vooralsnog onbekend. Wel geven ze aan dat het niet gaat om een traditionele prijsklasse van zestig dollar. Cliff Bleszinski vertelt:

Niet alleen het releasemodel, maar ook de artistieke stijl is aangepast. Het doel is om de game een meer volwassen uitstraling te geven, hetgeen ze tonen in een drietal screenshots. Om het zelf te ervaren volgen er binnenkort publieke testen, meer informatie hierover volgt in de komende maanden. In een F.A.Q. beantwoorden ze al wel een vijftal vragen:

After careful consideration of how the game has been progressing, we realized free-to-play wasn’t the right fit for what we're building. Lawbreakers is a competitive game at heart and that means balance is a big priority. Using a digital premium model helps ensure an even playing field by giving fans access to every available role without barriers.
3. How much will LawBreakers cost at launch?
The price at launch hasn’t been revealed yet, but we want to provide a high quality, digital downloadable game at a compelling price. LawBreakers will not have the $60 price point of a traditional boxed product.
4. Are you developing LawBreakers exclusively for PC? / Will LawBreakers release on additional platforms?
We’re initially developing LawBreakers for PC, then… who knows what the future holds?
5. When can I play?
We are planning to run a number of upcoming tests before launch. Exact timings are still to be confirmed, but we encourage players to Wishlist the game on Steam to be first in the know about our upcoming announcements.
